Nuclear Waste Services

Nuclear Waste Services have worked with us since 2015. We have created a huge range of animated content with them, developed their visual style from scratch and helped them increase their online engagement by over 300%.

What they wanted

What they wanted

Nuclear Waste Services (NWS), formerly known as Radio Active Waste Management, came to Infocandy needing a set of 20 short form animations each about 15 seconds in length. They needed them to be on brand, to loop, to work across all of their social profiles, and they needed them completed in six weeks.

We conceptualised, storyboarded, and illustrated the animations, whilst simultaneously developing their visual identity within three weeks, leaving us three weeks to turn it all into a set of films ready to be released to the public.

With that target hit, and the videos boosting their social engagement to figures they had never before experienced, it was the start of a beautiful relationship and we still continue to work with them to this day.

We have gone on to create animated web banners for PPC campaigns, deep-dive three minute animations around some of the more complicated topics they wanted to discuss, and shorter FAQ animations to help the general public put their mind at ease with the questions they were asking most.

How did we do it?

How did we do it?

At the time we were approached, NWS didn’t have a concrete visual style across all of their communications. They had a selection of various infographics and images on their Twitter page and on their website but nothing consistent. The first thing we did was to create still images in a variety of different styles until we honed the perfect identity for them. Once we had this clear, creating the films became much more straight forward.

How we made all of NWS's animations

Our proven step-by-step process for delivering high-quality animated videos, on time and aligned with your objectives.

  • Step 1

    Initial Meeting

We always start with a chat, either in person or online. We get to know exactly what they want to get out of their latest video. We’ll discuss audience, art style, length and where the film will be shown.
  • Step 2

    Script

NWS will usually provide Infocandy with a loose script, or set of notes around the topic they want to explain in their film. Our copywriters will then work with their team to form this into a snappy, clear, animation friendly script ready for production.
  • Step 3

    Storyboard

Armed with our signed-off script, we’ll create a frame-by-frame sketch of how we envisage the animation to flow. NWS will then take this storyboard to their stakeholder and experts to make sure it is exactly what they want, and make any amends as necessary.
  • Step 4

    Design

Once the script and the storyboard has been signed off by the many industry experts, scientists and government officials, we will begin the design process. Here we create all the new backgrounds and characters in the style of their visual brand identity.
  • Step 5

    Animation

With the script, storyboard and style frames all approved, we’ll then turn this into their latest film. We handle everything from sound, voice overs, animation and editing.
  • Step 6

    Final Delivery

Once finished, we will provide versions with and without subtitles, and often in English and in Welsh. We make sure the sizing and formatting is perfect for all of the channels they want to use to distribute the animation.

Trusted by Our Clients

Genuine testimonials from partners who've seen measurable results from our animated explainer videos.

  • Hopscotch

They seem to really understand how to talk to an audience, whatever their age and whatever subject you are talking about. But it’s their creativity when coming up with ideas for projects that really makes them stand out for me.

  • Testimony Films

We have made a few co-productions with Infocandy and they are the best animation company we have ever worked with. Our last joint project got nominated for a BAFTA, that’s how good they are.

  • BBC

They delivered a truly fantastic piece of work. Their talent, creativity and sense of fun shone through the piece. Anna was incredibly knowledgeable and put together a great script very quickly. The team set a clear timetable for the work – including storyboards, review points, time for tweaks etc – and stuck to it.

  • RWM

Working with Anna and Jon has been a fun, positive experience. It’s not easy to tell the GDF story, as the subject matter is both sensitive and tricky to explain. Going through the creative process was enjoyable, all feedback was handled with incredible patience, and the delivery was spot on. I would definitely work with them again.

Our prices for a typical 1 – 3 minute explainer style animation range from £2,000 – £10,000 depending on the level of complexity required and the amount of design development is needed. For the level of quality you receive, we are one of the best value studios around.

We have a tried and tested work flow that we have been honing for over a decade. Every client comes to us at a different stage, but we can handle the lot. See “Our Process” above for some more details.

We will usually recommend allowing four to six weeks for the full production. Depending on your style and how much development work is needed, we can often turn things around faster than this if you know what you want in advance.

That is really up to you. We love clients that are passionate about their brand and want everything to be just so, and we welcome their input and feedback throughout the production process. Equally, if you prefer to go into detail about how you want it to look right at the start, and then just leave us to get on with it that works for us to.

This will depend on the purpose of your film. If you are promoting a new product or service, we will normally suggest a running time around two minutes. If your film is intended to educate and explain how a complicated feature works, this may mean a longer running time. We have made 10 second viral clips for social media and 20 minute detailed walkthrough animations of complicated concepts, and everything in-between.

Unlike many studios, Infocandy do not hold the licence to your film after the project has been completed. We grant you full ownership in perpetuity once the final invoice has been paid, meaning you don’t get hit with unexpected costs to keep using your film later down the line.

As standard, we will keep a backup copy of all your animation files for three years following delivery. This means if something changes in your brand or your messaging a year after you have received your final film, we’ll be able to simply and cheaply edit your film for you without you having to start from scratch.
